Council helps Town Centre Businesses accommodate Customers Alfresco

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is leading efforts at a local level to promote town centre recovery, in partnership with the Department for Communities. As part of the Council’s Recovery Programme, 65 businesses in town centre locations will benefit from the installation of new awnings to help them facilitate social distancing. The awnings will also extend the business’ floor space through outdoor provision and provide shelter from the elements for customers queuing. The total cost of the scheme is £160,000. 
 
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery commented,

‘I am looking forward to seeing the roll out of this scheme across our town centres. This investment is a key driver in improving the regeneration of our towns by helping retailers to operate safely and sustaining our local businesses. The awnings will have a significant impact on improving safety whilst boosting public confidence in our town centres. On behalf of the Council, I would like to once again thank the Department for Communities for their financial support to enable this scheme to be implemented at no cost to businesses’.
